Hunter’s Arena: Fantasy battle royale confirmed as August PS Plus game
Usually, Sony doesn’t reveal a new month’s lineup of PlayStation Plus games until the previous month is just about over. However, with Hunter’s Arena — an upcoming fantasy battle royale game — launching next month, Sony has already confirmed it as part of August’s PS Plus lineup.
Hunter’s Arena is slated to launch on PS4 and PS5 on August 3, which is the first Tuesday of August. The first Tuesday also happens to be when the new PS Plus games become available.
Hunter’s Arena was recently spotlighted during Sony’s State of Play. The game is set in an ancient East Asian world where players must battle deadly demons and each other in order to survive and prove yourself as the deadliest hunter. Melee, martial arts and magic are your primary tools for combat.
The game features up to 30 players in a match; however, the addition of ancient demons means the action never stops. Slaying these creatures is how you collect loot and grow stronger during the match.
There are 17 different Hunters to choose from, each with unique fighting styles and abilities. Some excel in close range, while others long range.

There are three modes to choose from: Solo, Trio and Tag. Solo is pretty self explanatory; however, there’s an interesting element in which you can actually team up with other players temporarily to work together and defeat a strong boss demon. But be careful because once the demon is defeated, you will have to fight for the loot. Trios is basically a team of three, so picking Hunters with synergy and working together is key.
The final mode is Tag, a special mode that’s essentially a duel versus one other play. You each enter the arena with two Hunters on your team and go face to face until someone is defeated — kind of like a traditional fighting game.
Hunter’s Arena looks like an intriguing game and definitely a twist on what is otherwise becoming an oversaturated genre. Similar to other games have have launched as part of PlayStation Plus, Hunter’s Arena could greatly benefit from the early influx of players, much like we saw with Rocket League (and also Knockout City with Xbox Game Pass). Hunter’s Arena is already available on PC where it has received mixed reviews on Steam.
