Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is one of this month’s most anticipated releases. And without getting into specifics (as our review is on the way), you have very good reason to be excited.

Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to play this game. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is currently slated to release worldwide on July 9, 2021 and only on Nintendo Switch and PC.

Naturally, the question is whether or not this game will be making its way over to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X at some point. And, sadly, the answer is probably no.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is a sequel to the 2016 game which only released for Nintendo 3DS and later on iOS and Android. It was never brought to any other consoles.

I don’t see that changing with Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. It seems it is a Nintendo Switch console exclusive. So if you don’t have a Switch, your next best option is PC.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, as the name alludes, is a spinoff title in the Monster Hunter franchise with drastically different gameplay and overall approach. In the Monster Hunter series, you’re a Hunter who takes down these massive creatures in thrilling action-oriented combat. In Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, you’re actually a Rider, and you hatch eggs and befriend the monsters, fighting alongside them in turn-based-style combat. One could argue the narrative in Monster Hunter Stories is actually stronger than in the mainline Monster Hunter series.

Earlier this week, Capcom laid out the roadmap for future post-launch content support for Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. The roadmap included five free title updates that introduce new Monsties, co-op quests and more.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is the second Monster Hunter game to release exclusively on Nintendo Switch in 2021, following in the footsteps of the critically acclaimed Monster Hunter Rises.
