Dead Space: Beloved sci-fi horror could be revived at EA Play Live
Over the past week, rumors have run wild about EA possibly reviving Dead Space, the beloved sci-fi survival horror franchise.
Gamesbeat journalist Jeff Grubb was the first to bring up the possibility of EA Motive working on a revival of “an established IP” back in March. He doubled down on this speculation earlier this week when he teased: “we’re going to see it… if we’re not dead first.”
This seemed to strongly suggest that the game in development at EA Motive is Dead Space, a rumor that has since been backed by Gematsu and corroborated by Eurogamer.
I don’t know if these rumors are true, nothing has been announced by EA (obviously). But I sure hope they are!
Dead Space and Dead Space 2 are some of the most beloved sci-fi horror video games. They were innovative and set a gold standard for the survival horror genre.
Unfortunately, the franchise hit a road bump in 2013 with Dead Space 3. The shift in focus from horror to action and a lackluster story led to an overall disappointing third entry and poor sales. Although EA expressed interest in a sequel, developer Visceral Games was shut down in 2017 and the series put on ice.

Sometimes the best thing for a franchise is to just take a break. Allow the nostalgia to build up and then return with triumphant glory. It’s been 8 years since the last game in the series, so fans obviously remember the good times and forget what had become of it with Dead Space 3. Sometimes a little break can do everybody good. Perhaps this reimagining is a return to the series’ horror roots and not a focus on action, which ultimately proved to be the downfall.
EA Play Live is scheduled to take place on July 22. The only confirmed game to be at the show is Battlefield 2042 but you also have to figure EA Sports’ catalog will have presence there as well. Beyond that, it’s anyone’s guess what will be shown. I’m hoping we get to see Dragon Age 4 and Mass Effect 4, but a Dead Space revival will almost certainly be well received by all.
