I just got done watching the finale for season two of Mythic Quest and all I can say is Apple better renew this show for a third season.

Okay, so technically Mythic Quest doesn’t actually need a third season. The Season 2 finale, aptly titled “TBD,” serves fittingly as either a season or (I hope not) a series finale.

If you’re reading this, you probably already know how the season ends. If not, spoilers!

Ian Grimm (Rob McElhenney) and Poppy Li (Charlotte Nicdao) — co-creators of the fantasy MMO Mythic Quest — both realize, with the help of C.W., that the game has run its course. It’s a full-blown adult that needs to stand on its own. It’s a theme that runs parallel to David’s story arc throughout the entire season.

So the episode ends with Ian and Poppy leaving Mythic Quest HQ and starting their own company to focus on a brand new game, Hera, Poppy’s original idea for the Mythic Quest expansion that proved impossible to build within the existing game.

Story arcs for supporting characters like Joe, Dana, Rachel and Brad were fittingly resolved although I won’t necessarily say concluded as there is undoubtedly room to expand should the series get picked up for another season.

Which brings me back to my original point, I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters. Over the past two seasons, Mythic Quest has become one of my favorite shows on television (er, streaming). This season, in particular, has shown tremendous improvement in quality from the writing to the acting.

There’s not a single character on this show that I don’t enjoy watching. All of their stories and emotions are relatable albeit sometimes exaggerated. Even Ian, who started off the series as a ridiculous caricature, evolved into someone you could really relate to. His insecurities were made apparent and we witnesses his growth from egotistical game director who only cared about himself to a passionate leader who started to find more joy in watching others succeed and achieve their dreams. His relationship with Poppy was something truly fun to watch evolve.

I don’t know if Mythic Quest will be renewed for a third season. So far, nothing official has been announced. But it’s worth noting that it is one of Apple TV+’s most successful series to date with praise from viewers and critics alike. This gives me hope that a third season could be in the cards.
