The biggest question since Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda Game Studios was answered today during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase. Starfield is officially an Xbox and PC exclusive.

Bethesda confirmed that the highly anticipated role-playing game will release on November 11, 2022 on Xbox Series X|S and PC. It will also be available day one with Xbox Game Pass.

This doesn’t come as a total surprise since there were rumors that Starfield would be an Xbox exclusive. But PlayStation fans were holding out that since the game was announced before the acquisition it would possibly come to PS5. It’s disappointing but not unexpected, especially given the price tag that Microsoft paid for Bethesda (reportedly $7.5 billion).

We also got our first look at the game, although it came in the form of a cinematic teaser trailer.

An official synopsis confirmed that players will create their own character an “explore with unparalleled freedom as you embark on an epic journey to answer humanity’s greatest mystery.”

It’s all very vague but with an official release date and our first trailer, it can be assumed that we’ll be learning more about the game in the months ahead. We’ve still got a long ways to go until Starfield officially releases but the countdown has officially begun.

With Starfield confirmed as an Xbox Series X|S exclusive we can also assume this will apply to the new Elder Scrolls game which was announced at the same time as Starfield. The Elder Scrolls VI wasn’t featured during this year’s Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase so we can only speculate that the game is not even remotely close to being complete. I’m going to guess if Starfield comes in 2022, then The Elder Scrolls could arrive in 2023 at the earliest.

In the meantime, Bethesda has other titles in development for Xbox, including the newly announced co-op FPS, Redfall, which is due out in Summer 2022.
