It’s been a busy past couple of months for the PlayStation 5 with the release of blockbusters such as Returnal, Resident Evil Village, Mass Effect Legendary Edition and MLB The Show 21. And as we previously pointed out, it’s only picking up in June with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade highlighting this month’s releases. Both games are actually launching this week on PS5.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is set to launch on June 10, exclusively on PS5. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is actually just an enhanced version of the PS4 game that released back in April 2020. And that, of course, was a full-fledged remake of the beloved classic 1997 PlayStation game.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is considered an upgraded version of the 2020 game with  improved visuals and shorter load times. Although anyone who owns Final Fantasy VII Remake  for PS4 is eligible to upgrade to Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade for free and enjoy the improvements at no additional cost, this does not include the new expansion, Episode Intermission.

Episode Intermission is a PS5-exlcusive expansion that features Yuffie Kisaragi as the main playable character. Yuffie did not appear in Final Fantasy VII Remake, which covered and expanded upon the Midgar segment of the original game.

Also coming to PS5 this week is Insomniac Games’ Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Although this game takes place after the events of 2013’s Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus and 2016’s Ratchet & Clank (which served as a re-imagining of the first game in the series), Rift Apart is considered a good jumping in point for newcomers as it features a full-length, standalone story.

Reviews for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart have not yet hit the web, but initial previews and impressions have praised it as one of the best-looking next-gen games we’ve seen yet. For as many great games as we’ve seen on the PS5 so far, it sounds like Rift Apart might top them all purely in terms of innovative mechanics that truly harness the power of the PS5.
