The long-awaited Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is almost here! The highly anticipated online action RPG will launch globally on June 9 for Xbox One, and PC. It will also be playable on Xbox Series X|S via backward compatibility.

But what about PlayStation 5 or the last-gen PS4?

Is Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis launching on PlayStation?

Phantasy Star Online 2 launched on Xbox One and PC in May 2020 in North America. So far, the game hasn’t come to PlayStation outside of Japan.

Its upgraded successor, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, was first revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase. However, the game is also launching on PlayStation 4 (and Nintendo Switch) in Japan on June 9 as well.

So PSO2:NGS isn’t technically an Xbox exclusive globally. But so far, it has not been announced for the PS5 or PS4 in the west.

The reason for that has not been announced, but it’s possible that Microsoft secured some sort of timed exclusivity deal for Xbox and PC.

Will PSO2:NGS eventually coming to PS5 or PS4 in the U.S.?

More from App and Gaming News

So far, nothing has been announced for the PS5 or PS4, so all I can do is speculate. Given that PSO2:NGS is launching on other consoles in Japan, I do believe it will make its way to PlayStation consoles in the U.S. at some point. The question is when?

E3 is coming up, so it’s possible that some sort of announcement could be made then. But all we can do now is sit back and wait. But it would be weird for SEGA to skip out on a console as popular as the PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4.

What is Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis?

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is a free-to-play action RPG. It’s basically an upgraded sequel to Phantasy Star Online 2, featuring an expansive open- world, enhanced character models with a powerful creation engine, a redesigned graphics engine, new multi-weapon systems and abilities, and an action-oriented combat system. PSO2:NGS will run in unison with PSO2, with players able to move between the two games easily.
