Roblox is an incredibly popular brand. The free-to-play sandbox game platform or creation platform — whatever you want to call it — has exploded in popularity lately thanks, in part, to the pandemic.

With over 164 million monthly active users, Roblox is a powerhouse in gaming industry. But there’s still room for it to grow.

As it stands, Roblox is only available on PC/Mac, mobile devices and Xbox. For whatever reason, the game hasn’t come to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 or Nintendo Switch.

Despite the game’s popularity, Roblox could undoubtedly expand its reach considerably by coming to PlayStation and Nintendo platforms. We’re talking about two of the best-selling consoles in 2020/21 in the Nintendo Switch and PS5. It’s even estimated that the PS5 outsold the Xbox Series X|S by more than double in Q1 2021.

That’s a huge market for Roblox to be missing out on.

Thankfully, the company’s CEO and co-founder Dave Baszucki is aware of this. And it sounds like there are plans coming together to release Roblox on these platforms

During the company’s Q1 2021 earnings call, Baszucki acknowledged that the Switch, PlayStation and even [Oculus] Quest “make perfect sense for Roblox.”

I mean, obviously. The question is why has it taken so long to get on these platforms to begin with?

Roblox is kind of a mix between Minecraft and LEGO, giving gamers a robust creation tool to run wild with. This is the sort of game that has longevity because the players are the ones creating the content and staying engaged.

While PC is probably the best environment for Roblox, it could shine on additional consoles. I personally believe it could become one of the Switch’s most popular games just because of the hybrid nature of the console. Kids could be playing at home and then take their Switch over to a friend’s house and continue playing there in a group setting.

In my opinion, there’s no downside for Roblox to come to PlayStation or Switch. Now we just have to wait for the announcement.
