League of Legends: Wild Rift: ARAM returning in June with improvements
All Random All Mid, or ARAM for short, was set live in League of Legends: Wild Rift in early April. And now with the first testing phase complete, Riot has learned quite a bit.
For starters, the developer learned it was, indeed, a popular game mode contributing to nearly 20% of all games in some regions. However, they still aren’t quite sure if it’s something that should be in the mobile game permanently.
That said, it will be returning for a second phase. ARAM will return in “early June” for a four-week run that will look similar for the most part but with a few balance tweaks and changes.
Riot isn’t quite sure what these balance changes will look like, only saying they will invest more into it — especially the ” more nuanced balancing, ARAM-specific item and rune changes, and unique loadouts.”
One particular balance tweak has to do with champions that have stealth or camouflage abilities. They were a bit too overpowered in ARAM due to the lack of clear counters available in Wild Rift right now. Riot doesn’t want to nerf them into oblivion but does want to adjust them so they don’t dominate.
And then, of course, there’s exploring how ARAM fits into the broader Wild Rift ecosystem. Riot wants it to feel like a “key part” of the game, but how do they do that? Right now they are exploring things like specific missions or achievements, ARAM-specific rewards, and things of that nature.

I don’t know if any of that is the solution. I feel like those who like ARAM play it. And those who prefer the traditional League experience will play that. Standard matches are short enough now that you don’t have to jump into an ARAM if you want to play but are pressed for time. ARAM, in my opinion, is a mode with its own dedicated audience.
The question heading into the second testing phase is whether or not that dedicated group of players is big enough to warrant keeping the mode around permanently. I’ve never been a huge ARAM fan, but I do appreciate that it’s a less competitive version of the game.
What improvements would you like to see made to ARAM if it is eventually made into a permanent mode in League of Legends: Wild Rift?
