The highly anticipated Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is slated to launch sometime this year, but players eager to get a look at the massive update will be able to do so in the coming days. A Global Closed Beta Test for PSO2:NGS kicks off this week on May 14. Here are the details you need to know for it, including the registration process, dates it will run, and content that will be available.

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis Closed Beta Test registration

Registration for the Closed Beta Test actually kicked off last month, but it’s not too late! The registration period actually runs through the end of the Closed Beta Test operating period. You can sign up here. You can also register via the Xbox Insider Hub App.

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis Closed Beta Test platforms

Although PSO2:NGS is coming to PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Switch consoles, the Closed Beta Test is only available on PC. You’ll need a Windows 10 64bit with a minimum Intel Core i3-4150 or better (must support AVX) and 8GB of RAM. The minimum graphics card you’ll need is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 or AMD Radeon R9 285 or equivalent. Keep in mind, these specs are for the lowest settings.

What’s included in the PSO2: New Genesis Closed Beta Test?

While we’re finally getting a look at the highly anticipated game, please keep in mind that this is a beta test at the end of the day. It’s designed to help the development team collect players’ opinions and feedback to make the game the best experience they can. They want to test gameplay balance and make changes and adjustments based on their findings. And they also want to discover any bugs.

During this test, players will experience “the fundamental game system, with limited content that includes factors planned to be released at the official launch.”

We didn’t get specifics but Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis uses a concept of a “Never-Ending Quest” and features multi-party open-field battles as well as new systems that result in surprises across the universe. There are also new ways to travel and explore, a very in-depth character creation system, and more. I assume we’ll at least be able to experience the basics of these systems.

PSO2: New Genesis Closed Beta Test dates

The Closed Beta Test kicks off on May 14 at 6:00 p.m. PDT. Unfortunately, it only runs through the weekend and will end on May 16 at 7:00 p.m. PDT. You will get rewards for participating which will be distributed after PSO2:NGS’ launch.
