Call of Duty: Warzone: The original Gulag should return
Call of Duty: Warzone has been a massive success. Bringing one of the most popular video game franchises of all time to the battle royale genre has really done wonders for the franchise as a whole.
One of the coolest features that Call of Duty: Warzone added to the genre was the Gulag, a 1v1 minigame that players who die can participate in with the winner granted a redeployment. However, the Gulag has had a few details changed over the course of Call of Duty: Warzone‘s history.
The biggest change has come recently with a completely new look to the original Gulag to make it look like an under construction map. One of the biggest complaints with this new design is that the map isn’t as symmetrical as it was originally. This new variation of the map has a lot more obstacles to hide around and some people are just not feeling it.
I understand the need for change. The game can’t always stay the same or people would eventually get bored and move on. But if the majority of players aren’t happy, changes can be made.
The easiest changes that can be made right now would be to add back the original Gulag Showers to the game. The Showers gave a very competitive feel to the game overall and the map was just the perfect size to test everyone’s 1v1 ability. There wasn’t as much hiding in the Showers map. The combat was almost instant, which is what people loved about it.
But what if they kept the current map and added Gulag Showers back? Then you could have a randomized map to play in, pleasing both sides of the Gulag argument.
Having more than one map to play at would actually be kind of cool. Call of Duty as a whole is super complex and it is kind of surprising that they already don’t cycle through Gulag maps already. The possibilities are endless.

All in all, change is inevitable for any video game. I know fans are upset at some of the changes that have gone on recently in Call of Duty: Warzone, but you never know if the original Gulag map will make a return at some point. Not only will it make a lot of fans happy, but it will also be a huge selling point to get players to get back on the game who don’t play it as often anymore because of these changes.
Who knows what the future holds for the Call of Duty: Warzone Gulag, but hopefully it will return to its original roots over time.
