Xbox Games with Gold for April 2021 announced

As we prepare to turn the calendar page, Microsoft has announced the free Games with Gold for Xbox Live Gold members for next month. And it’s a nice assortment coming to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

Arriving April 1 and available for both Xbox console generations is Vikings: Wolves of Midgard, an action-RPG set in a Viking-inspired world but “with a fantasy twist.” I’m going to assume that twist is the mythical creatures you’ll be fighting.

In the game, you’ll travel to the Shores of Midgard where, as clan chief of a notorious band of Viking warriors, you will battle undead creatures and beasts of Ragnarok. Will you be able to save Midgard from annihilation? You won’t have to do it alone as Vikings: Wolves of Midgard supports two-player online co-op.

Also arriving on April 1 is Truck Racing Championship. I have to be honest, I didn’t know truck racing was a thing but apparently, the European Truck Racing Championship is big in the motor racing world. There are over 45 trucks from big-name manufacturers like Volvo, Man and Freightliner as well as 20 teams and 14 circuits. If truck racing is your thing — and I guess there are fans out there — then this is your moment to shine.

We’re also getting two Xbox 360 games in April: Dark Void and Hard Corps: Uprising. Dark Void is an action-adventure flight shooter where you’ll step into a parallel world of hostile aliens and “deep mystery.” Hard Corps: Uprising is your standard retro run-and-gun 2D side-scroller that pays homage to the classic Konami action series. Both of these games will also be playable on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

Here’s the full release schedule for April’s Xbox Games with Gold:

  • Vikings: Wolves of Midgard: April 1-30
  • Truck Racing Championship: April 16-May 15
  • Dark Void: April 1-15
  • Hard Corps: Uprising: April 16-30

That’s not all that’s free next month. For those of you who are Xbox Game Pass subscribers, you’ll also be able to play Outriders for free. Launching on April 1, Outriders is a cooperative shooter from People Can Fly. It’s one of my most-anticipated games next month, especially after playing the recent demo.

Xbox hasn’t exactly been killing it with the free games this year but I have to give them credit for opening my world to all sorts of different genres of games. Part of the fun of Xbox Games with Gold is trying new games that I otherwise wouldn’t bother with.
