While it’s been a relatively quiet year for the PlayStation 5 in terms of new game releases, things will be picking up in April.

Kicking things off for the month will be Outriders, People Can Fly’s cooperative role-playing third-person shooter. Sony’s signature baseball game is also back with MLB The Show 21 (and this year it’s no longer exclusive to PlayStation). Closing out the month is Housemarque’s Returnal, a third-person sci-fi psychological horror game. These are probably my three most anticipated games coming to PS5 in April, but first, let’s take a look at the entire month-long calendar.

  • Outriders – April 1
  • Oddworld: Soulstorm – April 6
  • MLB The Show 21 – April 20
  • MotoGP 21 – April 22
  • Judgment – April 23
  • Returnal – April 30
  • Terminator: Resistance Enhanced – April 30

As I mentioned, Outriders is a co-op shooter with RPG mechanics. There are four classes in the game to choose from, each with unique abilities and skills. Although Outriders has cover-based mechanics, the combat seems much more aggressive than sitting back and picking off enemies.

If you’re unfamiliar with Outriders, a demo for the game is currently available. You can try out all four classes and play them throughout the beginning portion of the game, unlocking abilities and earning gear up to level. What’s cool about the demo is all of your progress will carry over into the full game at launch if you decide to purchase it.

MLB The Show 21 is arriving after the start of the Major League Baseball season for some reason. Sony San Diego’s annual baseball sim looks better than ever this year, especially on PS5 where we’ll be getting Create A Ballpark and a special video podcast narrative go to along with Road to the Show/Ballplayer.

Returnal is another intriguing sci-fi horror with roguelike gameplay. After crashing on a shape-shifting world, Selene searches the barren landscape of an ancient civilization for her escape. The catch is that every time she dies, the planet changes and the loop cycle restarts with new combinations, including the items at your disposal. As a game developed exclusively for PlayStation 5, Returnal makes use of the PS5’s DualSense controller in unique ways that benefit from the haptick feedback and 3D spatial audio.

As you can see, there are quite a variety of games coming to PS5 in April, and it’s easily the best month of 2021 so far. If you’re looking to save some money, Sony is also giving away Horizon: Zero Dawn Complete Edition for free in April as part of the Play at Home 2021 event.
