EA confirmed last November that its Battlefield series will be returning in Holiday 2021 but CEO Andrew Wilson didn’t really share any details. Most are referring to the game as Battlefield 6 as Battlefield 5 was the last installment to release in 2018. However, according to leaks and a recent survey conducted by EA, we’ve got some new details and hints as to what this year’s game will entail.

Battlefield 6 Setting

For starters, according to famed Battlefield leaker Tom Henderson, this year’s game will simply be called “Battlefield.” EA appears to be dropping the number, perhaps as a sort of reinvigoration of the franchise.

The game is also reportedly set in the “modern/very near future” about 10 years from now. With the new Call of Duty reportedly set during World War II, the more modern setting for Battlefield will help set it apart and will appeal to those looking for more modern weapons and vehicles. Henderson says to expect military robots, drones, jets, helicopters and all the fancy weapons the military has at its disposal. I’m just hoping they don’t go too futuristic

Battlefield 6 leaked story details

Nothing official has been announced, but Henderson revealed some very interesting things about the campaign. In the game, the U.S. and Russia are the two main superpowers and will reportedly try to recruit you and your specialist unit to fight for them. This is an interesting twist as you will supposedly choose your path and which side to fight for. Does this mean we’ll get two different narrative story experiences depending on which side we choose?

Will the U.S. still be considered the “good” guys — a stance that is debatable, to say the least. Will the story delve into American military atrocities or will it simply paint Russia as the only villain?

Battlefield 6 Multiplayer details and Battle Royale

Multiplayer is “bigger and better” and is described as “Battlefield 3/4 on steroids.” As a fan of both of those games, I like what I’m hearing.

Battle Royale will also be returning although it will not be related to Firestorm. Honestly, I was never a fan of Battlefield’s battle royale experience. I prefer the traditional large-scale battles in multiplayer.

More from App and Gaming News

A survey from EA recently asked questions pertaining to a battle pass, platoon/clan system, free-to-play element, evolving maps and weapon blueprints. I don’t think it’s out of the question that EA could release the battle royale mode (or maybe multiplayer entirely) for free and simply charge players who want to buy a season pass.

The evolving map question is interesting. Without seeing context, it’s hard to tell if this refers to maps that could evolve during a single multiplayer match or if they could change over the span of an entire season. And would this simply be applied to battle royale or all of the multiplayer maps?

There are lots of questions surrounding Battlefield and hopefully, they get answered soon. The first trailer for Battlefield (6) is expected to arrive in May. Do you like what you hear so far?
