Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever and there comes a time where we have to say goodbye to video games of the past. There have been recent reports that Sony will be closing its doors on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, and PlayStation Vita stores between July and August of this year.

There has been no official announcement on this report. However, according to The Gamer, there is most likely going to be an announcement on this later on at the end of this month. This report also goes on to state that the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Portable will shut down their digital stores on July 2 and the PlayStation Vita store will close on August 27.

As of this moment, PS3 and PS Vita only-games are only available on their respective digital stores. However, just because they are shutting down their digital stores does not mean it will be impossible to get some of your favorite games on those consoles. You will still be able to find physical copies of games scattered across the internet. There are still Nintendo 64 physical games that you are able to find on all different types of online shops. Upon this announcement, the only stores that are closing in regards to those three systems are their digital stores.

If you plan on buying any games digitally on any of these three consoles, I would suggest doing so before July 2 and August 27. After those dates, you will have to find a way to buy a physical copy of your favorite old-time games.

Having a physical copy of a video game isn’t the end of the world. In fact, some people prefer to have a physical copy. However, with video game technology always improving and evolving over the years, some people prefer digital copies. Also, you don’t have to worry about losing previously purchased digital games as you won’t lose those. You just won’t be able to purchase any new games from the digital stores.

It has been a long time coming for the PS3, PSP, and PS Vita. All of those consoles are fairly old and unfortunately, the digital stores can’t stay open forever. All of these consoles have also been discontinued from retailers and the only way you are able to purchase these consoles is to find them from an online retailer.

All of this news has not been made official from Sony, but it is expected that Sony will be making a statement regarding these reports by the end of March. It will be interesting to see if these reports prove to be true. All signs seem to be pointing in that direction.
