Epic Games is no stranger to big collaborations and crossover events in its insanely popular battle royale game, Fortnite. We’ve seen events and cosmetics inspired by Marvel, DC, Star Wars and many other brands as well as some major sports, including and soccer (football) and American football.

In launching its latest update, Chapter 2 – Season 6: Primal, Epic Games has teased its latest collaboration with Neymar Jr. The soccer superstar is the first sports icon to join Fortnite and is said to be a “key part” of the Season 6 Battle Pass.

Unfortunately, most of the juicy details are being kept under wraps. I assume Neymar Jr’s inclusion in the game will involve some sort of character skin — perhaps a special event as well — but so far nothing has been revealed yet.

However, the initial teaser for Season 6, which Neymar Jr. responded to, possibly contained some hints as to what this outfit will look like. Fans across social media speculate that the skin will involve Neymar Jr’s iconic #10 jersey number. It also looks like there will be some sort of “primal” twist on the outfit.

Epic acknowledged that sports is a “strategic vertical” for Fortnite’s developing metaverse and, naturally, Neymar Jr — who is one of soccer’s most-followed and popular players — is a perfect athlete to lead this continued partnership. In January, Fortnite introduced 23 global football teams into the game and also partnered with football legend Pelé to bring his iconic “Air Punch” into the game as an emote.

Soccer isn’t Epic’s only focus in the sports world either. Fortnite will continue to work with the NFL to add football-related content in 2021, although no details were announced. In the past, Fortnite has added cosmetic outfits inspired by NFL teams.

The addition of Neymar Jr as a skin opens up all sorts of potential moving forward. Epic can now tap into the rabbid sports fandom and feature some of the world’s biggest and most popular athletes to appeal to an entirely new audience. Imagine a skin inspired by Tom Brady or LeBron James. The possibilities are endless and as a sports fan, I’m excited for what the future holds.
