Epic Games buys Mediatonic, adding Fall Guys to its impressive lineup
Epic Games, already one of the biggest video game companies in the world, continues to gobble up studios. Epic Games bought Rocket League‘s Psyonix back on May 1, 2019. That news was massive as Epic already had control of one of the biggest video games in the world in Fortnite. Then they added Rocket League to their portfolio as well.
With the recent news that Epic Games will also be buying Mediatonic, Fall Guys will now also be under the Epic Games umbrella. It is no secret how successful Fall Guys has been since the game first released. With Fall Guys now being acquired by Epic Games along with Mediatonic, some people have asked will there be any changes?
In a post on Epic Games’ website, Tim Sweeny, Found and CEO of Epic Games, promised:
"For Fall Guys fans, your gameplay isn’t changing and Epic will continue to invest in making the game a great experience for players across platforms."
When Psyonix was bought by Epic Games many people had the same questions that they are asking now. While Rocket League has changed slightly since it was acquired, the changes have all been actually pretty good. If changes are to be made to Fall Guys, they’ll likely be good as well.

One of the changes that we know are coming with Fall Guys is that it will be hitting the Nintendo Switch store and the Xbox Live Marketplace sometime this summer. The reason why it is coming to these consoles when many thought it never would is most likely due to the fact that there could have been a deal in the making between these two companies prior to the news being broke that Mediatonic was bought by Epic Games. That is a change that will definitely benefit Fall Guys in the long run.
In that same post, Paul Croft, Tonic Games Group, Co-Founder and Chief Games Officer, boasted about “tremendous potential in combining forces with Epic.” He didn’t get into specifics, but Epic is big enough to provide the tools to continue expanding upon Fall Guys.
As of now, it hasn’t been released on how much Epic bought Mediatonic for, but that really doesn’t matter. What matters is that Epic Games continues to add gaming companies to their arsenal and they continue to grow. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for both Epic and Mediatonic. I have very high hopes for these two parties.
