PS Plus free games for March 2021: FFVII Remake, Remnant: From the Ashes

Sony has announced its lineup of free PlayStation Plus offerings for March 2021, and subscribers are in for quite a treat. In addition to yet another new PlayStation 5 game debuting through the subscription service, members will also be treated to three PlayStation 4 games.

The highlight for March is, undoubtedly, Final Fantasy VII Remake. Square Enix’s reimagining of the iconic RPG released in 2020. It not only modernized the visuals and gameplay but also changed some of the story beats.

In the grand scheme of FFVII’s story, Final Fantasy VII Remake is just a snippet of the adventure, with the first part set entirely within the city of Midgar. Now anyone who played the original game knows this was a small section in the original game, but Square Enix somehow dragged it out into a 40-hour experience.

Square Enix just recently announced that a PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake will be releasing in June. This free PS4 version through PlayStation Plus is not eligible for the free upgrade to the PS5 digital version. Unfortunately, this also means you won’t be able to play the new Yuffie episode coming with Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.

In addition to FFVII Remake, PS Plus. members will also get Remnant: From the Ashes, a survival action shooter in which players venture into dynamically-generated worlds overrun by monstrous creatures and interdimensional invaders. I actually played Remnant: From the Ashes briefly when it first launched and I really enjoyed it. It offers a surprisingly deep modding system and a good variety of enemies and bosses that make combat feeling fresh and exciting.

Also coming in March to PS Plus is Farpoint, a free-roaming, first-person PS VR shooter I’m, personally, not a fan of VR, but this game looks pretty cool as you try and survive a hostile alien world.

Lastly, making its debut through PlayStation Plus on PlayStation 5 is Annapurna Interactive’s new first-person puzzler, Maquette.

All four of these games will be available for PlayStation Plus members from March 2 through April 5, 2021.
