Marvel’s Avengers’ next DLC, Operation: Hawkeye – Future Imperfect, will release on March 18, 2021. Square Enix announced the launch date during today’s War Table, which also confirmed the next-gen version of the game will be available that same day on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Operation: Hawkeye – Future Imperfect is the second part of Hawkeyes’ story arc, which first began in December with the arrival of Kate Bishop. This latest chapter focuses on her teacher, Clint Barton.

After uncovering an evil conspiracy involving Commander Nick Fury and time travel, Hawkeye – Future Imperfect brings players face to face with a possible future where all hope is lost.

Marvel’s Avengers Operation: Hawkeye – Future Imperfect is inspired heavily by the Old Man Hawkeye comic book series, especially the “Eye for an eye” collection. According to the Crystal Dynamics in the War Table:

"In the comics, the world’s villains organized to eliminate all superheroes, and the world collapsed from there. Hawkeye was spared and had to watch the tragedy take place, all while working towards the moment he eventually avenges the fallen heroes."

Crystal Dynamics’ version takes some creative liberty with Old Man Hawkeye retired and not part of the fight when the Kree invasion happened. Trying to make up for his mistake for decades, he’s been following Commander Nick Fury’s trail through the wastelands.

Meanwhile, back in the present time, younger Hawkeye has to deal with his own problems in a story inspired by the comic run, “My Life as a Weapon.”

The time-bending journey ultimately sees Hawkeye come face-to-face with a powerful new villain: Supreme Leader Maestro, who comic book fans will recognize from the comic “The Incredible Hulk: Future Imperfect #1.” He’s a hulk from an alternate future that possesses Bruce Banner’s intelligence and the Hulk’s ferocious personality traits.

In Marvel’s Avengers, Supreme Leader Maestro is born when the Hulk is driven insane by the destruction and loss caused by a nuclear war.

Maestro becomes the Hulk’s alternate persona after being driven insane by the scale of destruction and loss stemming from a nuclear war. He’s also been absorbing excess radiation from the nuclear fallout, which probably hasn’t helped.

The action in Operation: Hawkeye – Future Imperfect is set in the wasteland, a barren desert region filled with wreckage from the Kree invasion of Earth. In addition to Hawkeye – Future Imperfect missions, players can travel to the wastelands to take on villain sectors and other missions.

As for Clint, we all know he excels with a bow, but Crystal Dynamics has also taken inspiration from his Ronin period as well. In the game, he’ll be just as effective with the sword up close as he is with the bow at range.

Marvel’s Avengers Operation: Hawkeye – Future Imperfect will launch on March 18, 2021. As with all DLC for the game, it will be completely free everyone.

It’s been a long while since I last logged into Marvel’s Avengers. While I did enjoy the game at launch, it was hampered by glitches and bugs. Hopefully, some of those problems have been worked out because I’m eager to jump back in with Operation: Hawkeye.
