The reason why Jagex is deciding to release the game on Steam is because of the 20th anniversary of RuneScape. You also do not have to worry about losing your progress from the past either. Whether you last played a week ago or 15 years ago, you will still be able to log in with your Steam account and pick up right where you left off. That is a sigh of relief because it gives some of the old school players more incentive to get back into the RuneScape grind.

Also, another key note on the game coming to Steam is that it will get the full “Steam treatment” meaning that the game will have achievements to try and acquire along with Steam trading cards a little bit after launch.
