Rocket League to celebrate Super Bowl LV with brand new game mode

NFL football fans around the world are preparing for an epic clash between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV. For the first time in NFL history, a team will be hosting in their home city for the Super Bowl. Yes, you heard that correctly. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers get the honor of playing the Super Bowl in their home stadium, something that has never been done before in the history of the NFL.

With all that being said, Rocket League has decided that they want to get in on the Super Bowl action as well. Starting February 2 and lasting through February 8, Rocket League will be hosting their NFL Super Bowl LV celebration event. The NFL Super Bowl LV celebration event will include the return of the NFL fan pack, new event challenged, and a brand new Gridiron game mode.

Perhaps the coolest part of this event is the release of the brand new limited-time game mode called Gridiron. Gridiron transforms Champions Field into a NFL arena. The all-new transformed Champions arena puts the NFL logo at midfield along with hash marks to make it feel like you are at a real NFL stadium.

Gridiron will be a 4 on 4 game mode that transforms the standard Rocket League ball into an American Football. Whenever you touch the football, it will stick to the top of your car and stay there similar to Rocket League’s Spike Rush. Except in Spike Rush, the ball sticks to wherever you make contact with the ball.

Anytime a player touches the football, that player then becomes the ball carrier. This sets up the opportunity for team hand-offs or steals by the opposing team. However, one key aspect of Gridiron that many players should know is that if you are the ball carrier, you are only allowed to single jump. If you double jump you will automatically fumble the football. Double jumping isn’t the only way you can fumble the ball either. There are little markers on the arena wall that if you pass those up you will fumble the ball immediately, so make sure to stay inbounds! You can also set up some passing plays to your teammates by dodging.

Scoring is a little bit different than the traditional Rocket League scoring and is similar to NFL scoring. You can either get 3 or 7 points based on how the football enters the goal. 7 points are awarded to your team if the ball is attached to a player when entering the opposing goal. You can also get 3 points for your team if the ball is passed in or if the ball is not attached to a players and rolls into the goal. All own-goals are also credited as 3 points as well.

Now that you are fully aware of how Gridiron will work and all the rules associated with the new limited-time game mode, all you have left to do is wait till February 2nd till the event officially goes live. The NFL Super Bowl LV Celebration Rocket League event will be a perfect way to kick off Super Bowl week and get gamers excited for the big day on February 7th when the Kansas City Chiefs defend their Super Bowl Championship against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers!
