Lucasfilm Games now the official identity for all Star Wars video games
Disney made a massive announcement today stating that all future Star Wars video games will be branded under the name Lucasfilm Games.
Usually, when something happens within the Star Wars universe, the news travels very quickly. Today, Disney — via the Star Wars website — made a massive announcement stating that any Star Wars video games going forward will now be identified under Lucasfilm Games.
Star Wars released a video on their official YouTube page that showcases a handful of their games that they have created over the years. The video includes the likes of Star Wars: Squadrons, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, Star Wars: Battlefront 2, and a handful of other titles as well.

EA has been a major part in helping to produce Star Wars video games over the past few years or so and now with this announcement, it will be interesting to see how it affects the developer/publisher. EA hasn’t released a statement on the announcement yet, but with the news being so fresh I am sure it is only a matter of time before we get more insight onto how current games will be affected by this, if at all. The fact that EA’s games were shown could simply mean this is an umbrella banner and that EA will continue as the sole developer for Star Wars games on “core gaming consoles.”
Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is a game that EA created and in the video that Star Wars released it was one of the video games that was shown. I don’t know if this was just a way to show an example of what Star Wars games will be affected going forward or if the video was meant to hint at what games will be affected by the news. Lucasfilm Games will now most likely not stick to one sole publisher, but rather expand their horizons and see what others have to offer.
While this news may not seem to be extremely big for some people, the news can definitely affect what types of additions are added to any future games. For example, there are certain things that EA is allowed to put in their Star Wars games compared to what other publishers are allowed to put into their games. It will be interesting to see and play the first official Star Wars game in the new Lucasfilm Games era.
