Ornn will return to Teamfight Tactics as an Elderwood Blacksmith. Here’s what his new trait will do in TFT Set 4.5.

As we draw closer and closer to the TFT mid-set refresh, Riot continues to tease new champions and traits coming in Set 4.5. Today, the developer confirmed that Ornn will be returning to the game as an Elderwood Blacksmith.

While we’re already familiar with what Elderwood can do, the Blacksmith treat is new to TFT. As explained by Riot, Ornn “forges unique Artifacts for his teammates, cuz he’s supportive like that.” Ornn will function similarly to Sett, entering the battle for a short period before going off to the sideline to forge an Artifact item. His exact mechanics — such as the item he will forge or how long he will take to create it — remain a mystery.

The previous leak for Set 4.5 didn’t offer much more in terms of specifics. It only said that the higher Ornn’s star-level, the faster he’ll work. And that once the Artifact is complete, it will “be able to bestow upon an ally.” It’s unclear if the item will automatically go to an allied champion or if you’ll be the one to place it on someone.

Lead TFT gameplay designer Stephen “Mortdog” added a bit more context for Ornn, admitted that he’s “a little weak for a 5 cost.” However, it sounds like players will be more than pleased with the Artifacts he creates. It also sounds like there will be a random pool of Artifacts that Orrn pulls from.

Ornn is the third new champion for the Elderwood trait, joining fellow newcomers Xayah and Rakan. Maokai, Lulu, Veigar, and Nunu will remain in the game as is. Ornn will take the place of Ezreal, who serves as the current 5-cost Legendary Elderwood. Other Elderwood champions leaving with Set 4.5 are Hecarim and Ashe.

TFT Set 4.5, which is dubbed Festival of Beasts arrives with patch 11.2 on January 21. We’ll get out first look at Ornn, however, when the mid-set update comes to PBE around January 6.
