Sony is kicking off the New Year with three free games for PlayStation Plus: one for PS5 and two for PS4. Check out the PS Plus lineup for January 2021.

The New Year is almost upon us and PlayStation Plus subscribers can look forward to three new games to kick-off 2021. Sony has revealed the first batch of free games coming in the next year and once again we’ll be getting three of them; one will be for PlayStation 5 while the other two will be for PlayStation 4.

Up first is the PS5 version of Maneater, a single-player, open-world action RPG where you play as… a shark. Remember when video games used to not take themselves so seriously? This is exactly what Maneater seems to be. You begin the game as a baby shark (doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo) and must survive the harsh ocean ecosystem. From wildlife to humans, you’ll encounter all sorts of dangers both beneath and above the waves.

Maneater doesn’t look like a mind-blowing game, but it does seem like a pretty fun time which is all you can ask for with a free PS Plus game.

Also coming in January is Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The 2018 action-adventure game is a sequel to Rise of the Tomb Raider and follows Lara Croft to the legendary city Paititi in a race against the paramilitary organization, Trinity, to stop the Mayan apocalypse.

The third and final free game for the month is Greedfall, a fantasy-themed action RPG in which you explore a new world “seeping with magic, and filled with riches, lost secrets, and fantastic creatures.” Defend the local settlers protected by supernatural beings or side with the invaders; every choice you make will influence and affect the game’s story in true RPG fashion.

Although Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Greedfall are both technically PlayStation 4 games, you’ll be able to play them on PS5 via backward compatability.
