Monster Hunter Rise is the newest installment in Capcom’s beloved action-RPG series. Here’s everything we know about the highly anticipated game.

2018’s Monster Hunter: World was a smash hit, receiving universal acclaim while becoming the best-selling game in the series and Capcom’s fourth best-seller of all-time. It was the first Monster Hunter game that I had ever played, and I’m sure that was the case for a lot of others as well.

Since 2010, the Monster Hunter games have typically only been released for Nintendo platforms. World bucked that trend by coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. It eventually made its way to the Nintendo Switch as well.

Well, in 2021, a new installment in the popular action-RPG series is coming — Monster Hunter Rise. Here’s everything we know about it!

Release date

Monster Hunter Rise is set to launch on March 26, 2021.

Platforms

While World brought the franchise to new audiences thanks to its multiplatform release, Rise has only been announced for the Nintendo Switch. There are rumors that it could be coming to PC as well later in the year, but Capcom has not announced anything official yet. It has not been announced for Xbox or PlayStation platforms either.

Demo

A demo for Monster Hunter Rise will be available for the Nintendo Switch sometime in January 2021. It will only be available for a limited time.

New Features, Setting, Weapons and Items

Monster Hunter Rise stays true to the series’ action-RPG core gameplay but introduces a new setting, cast of characters and monsters to slay. Multiplayer functionality returns although you’ll need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to play with others.

More from App and Gaming News

Monster Hunter Rise will introduce new gameplay elements to the franchise, most notably the Wirebug. This lasso-like insect allows for all sorts of cool traversal abilities. It functions similar to a grappling hook, allowing you to dash through the air and wall run. It also helps in combat as you can chain attacks and aerial dodges with it as well. All 14 weapons will also have their own special attack using the Wirebug.

Palamutes are also new to the game. These are a new type of Buddy that will join you on hunts. Similar to the Palico, the Palamute offers backup when fighting monsters. They can synchronize their attacks with you and even let you ride on their back.
