2020’s best-selling Nintendo Switch indie games revealed

As the year comes to a close, Nintendo is looking back at some of 2020’s best-sellers. In a newly released video, Nintendo reflects on some of the Nintendo Switch’s best-selling games. There’s an interesting twist to this list, however, as it’s focused entirely on indie games.
Nintendo’s handheld hybrid has been an indie powerhouse since its release and 2020 saw quite a few gems released on it. The video highlights 16 indie games in total, so if you’re looking for some recommendations, here is what sold the best.
The top-selling indie games on the Nintendo Switch for 2020 are as follows:
- Hades
- Streets of Rage 4
- Spiritfarer
- Moving Out
- Ori and the Will of the Wisps
- Carrion
- What the Golf?
- Shantae and the Seven Sirens
- Super Mega Baseball 3
- Superliminal
- The Jackbox Party Pack 7
- Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin
- Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition
- CrossCode
- Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2
- Neon Abyss
Hades appearing on the list is unsurprising as the game received universal acclaim upon release. It was developed and published by Supergiant Games and was released on PC and Nintendo Switch, selling over one million copies in its first three days. It was nominated for nine awards at The Game Awards 2020, including Game of the Year. It won Best Indie and Best Action title.

Another game that I’m not surprised to see as a top-seller is Shantae and the Seven Sirens. A platformer from WayFoward, the game follows the half-genie Shantae as she explores an interconnected world in search of her missing friends. This game also received generally favorable reviews.
The Jackbox Party Pack 7 is a great game to play with friends. I’ve actually participated in quite a few online games with friends while social distancing during the pandemic and it provided some great fun.
The Nintendo Switch library is filled with indie games that offer innovative and unique gameplay. And given the struggles we’ve seen with some of 2020’s AAA blockbusters, one could argue there’s a bit more quality to some of these games.
