Stardew Valley: How to change weapon appearances at the Forge
Introduced with the Stardew Valley 1.5 update was the ability to change weapon appearances. To do so, you’ll need to visit the Forge in the Volcano dungeon.
Stardew Valley Update 1.5 recently dropped on PC (coming soon-ish to consoles) and one of the exciting new features is the ability to change your weapon’s appearance while retaining the stats (think transmog in Monster Hunter: World). Doing so is actually a very easy and straightforward process although it requires you to unlock the Forge first.
The Forge was also introduced with the 1.5 update and it’s located in the new Volcano dungeon, which is found on Ginger Island. To reach Ginger Island, you’ll first need to complete a quest.
Once you locate the Volcano, you’ll need to travel down to the 10th floor. Here is where the Forge is located.
The Forge allows for many useful things, including upgrading and enchanting weapons/tools, combining rings and changing weapon appearances.

Changing your weapon’s appearance requires 10 cinder shards as well as two of the same weapons. When you merge the two weapons through the Forge, the result will have all of the stats and info of the first weapon (left side of the forge) and the appearance of the second weapon (right side of the Forge). You can only merge two weapons of the same type, so you can’t put the stats of a sword with the appearance of a hammer, for instance.
You can also unforge a weapon and reset its appearance. This is free and recovers partial Cinder Shards but you do lose the cosmetic sword. You can unforge a weapon by putting it on the left side of the Forge and clicking the little red “x” button.
It’s that easy! If you are short on Cinder Shards, they can be found in the volcano. You can mine Cinder Shard nodes with a pickaxe or get them as drops from Magma Sprite, Magma Sparker and False Magma Cap.
