Stardew Valley Update 1.5, the largest update the game has seen yet, introduces the brand-new late-game area, Ginger Island. Here’s how to get there.

Of the many exciting new features and additions to Stardew Valley that came with Update 1.5, GInger Island is perhaps the most intriguing. The new late-game region, which is part of the Fern Island, is an entirely new area to explore with new locations, dialogue options, events, minigames, puzzles and questline. It’s also the location of a brand new volcano dungeon that changes each time you visit.

Ginger Island holds many exciting secrets, but one of the challenges is getting to it. To reach this new region, you need to first complete the community center’s entire community bundles. Once you do that, WIlly sends you a letter a few days later about repairing his boat.

More from Game Guides

Visit WIlly in the back of his shop and you’ll be tasked with collecting three key objects to help him repair the boat:

  • Five battery packs
  • 200 pieces of hardwood
  • Five iridium bars

How to create a battery pack

To obtain a battery pack you need to first craft a Lightning Rod. Then you need to wait for a thunderstorm and hope lightning strikes the rod (it’s not a guarantee). If you see your rod pulsating, then you’ll have a battery pack.

How to get hardwood

Hardwood is a resource that can be collected by chopping a Large Stump with a Copper Ax or better. These stumps appear in the Secret Woods and the Forest Farm. They can also be gathered by breaking barrels and boxes in the MInes.

How to craft iridium bars

An Iridium Bar is crafted by smelting 5 Iridium Ore and 1 Coal in a Furnace. You can also find them from Purple Slimes in the Skull Cavern or Slime Hutch.

Once you have all the required materials, you can repair the boat. Wait a day and then you’ll be able to travel to Ginger Island.
