How Animal Crossing: New Horizons is celebrating New Year’s Eve
Ring in the New Year with different foods and items from around the world in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Here’s what’s for sale!
Thanks to the COVID-19 global pandemic, it’s unlikely that massive crowds will be gathering to ring in the New Year. As excited as we all are to say goodbye to the dumpster fire that was 2020, it seems unwise to go out and celebrate — especially as case numbers continue to rise in the United States. Thankfully, you can still celebrate New Year’s Eve in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Available now at Nook Shopping until December 31 is an assortment of food that represents some different cultures from around the world. To represent America, you can purchase different flavors of Sparkling Cider for 1,000 Bells. When the clock strikes midnight, raise a glass and toast to the hopefulness of 2021.
Representing Spain is a Twelve-Grape Dish for 1,200 Bells. Referred to as “the 12 grapes of luck,” one grape is eaten for each of the 12 bell tolls that ring at midnight.
The Berliner can also be purchased for 1,200 Bells and is a German pastry. Comparable to a jelly donut, a Berliner Pfannkuchen is filled with jam and topped with sugar and is a traditional treat in Germany to celebrate the new year.

Lastly, you can buy New Year’s Noodles for 1,300 Bells. In Japan, many celebrate the new year with toshikoshi-soba (“year-passing soba”) for good luck.
Currently, these are the only four dishes available for purchase, but it looks like more items will be available on January 1. According to Animal Crossing World, you’ll be able to purchase Kadomatsu (Japan), Kagamimochi (Japan), Olivier Salad (Russia), Yut Nori (Korea), Zodiac Ox Figurine (Asia), New Year’s Shimekazari (Japan), and a 2021 Celebratory Arch (World). It’s also possible that when the clock strikes midnight some sort of in-game event will happen, perhaps a sound or a fireworks show.
It’s fitting that the same game that helped us all get through the doldrums of 2020 is the same one that will help us usher in 2021. So buy some food, invite your friends over and celebrate 2021 from the safety of your digital home in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
