Dying Light 2 was delayed from its 2020 release and we haven’t heard much about the sequel since then. That will apparently change in 2021.

Fans of Techland’s parkour-infused, zombie action franchise Dying Light will finally get an update about the delayed sequel in the new year. In a message posted on Christmas Eve, Techland promised “fresh updates” about Dying Light 2 in 2021.

Don’t get too excited though. When Techland first delayed Dying Light 2 from its Spring 2020 release window back in January, the developer promised more details “in the coming months.” But we haven’t heard much about the game since.

That can be partially blamed on COVID, which upended much of the world. Even so, game developers have been pressing on and working on their games from home. I imagine Techland has been doing the same. Assuming that to be the case, we’ll hopefully see a fresh version of the highly anticipated sequel in early 2021.

Dying Light 2 was supposed to release in 2020 but was pushed back with Techland needing “more development time to fulfill our vision.” The sequel to 2015’s surprise hit was first announced in 2018. The sequel takes place 15 years after the first game and will feature a new protagonist named Aiden Caldwell.

Other than that, not much else is known about the game. Of course, parkour traversal will continue to be the focus as that’s partially what helped the first game stand out amongst other zombie action titles. I’m going to assume this sequel will be more ambitious in its scope.

Various gameplay trailers released over the past two years suggest that to be the case. Dying Light 2 will take us to The City, a massive urban open world overrun by zombies and other survivors (who also pose a threat). What makes Dying Light 2 stand out from its predecessor is how your tough choices will help shape The City and the narrative of the game itself.

I can’t wait to hear more!
