After many years of great entertainment and multiplayer experience, 343 Industries will finally be shutting down their Halo multiplayer servers on Xbox 360.

The Halo franchise is one of the most popular Xbox exclusive franchises of all times. Some gamers even invested in purchasing an Xbox just because of the Halo franchise itself. With the next-gen consoles currently out, that pushes the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back a whole “two generations.” While nothing lasts forever, some of us might wish certain things did.

343 Industries announced on December 18, 2020 on Halo’s official Twitter page that they will be officially closing down online services for all of their Halo games on Xbox 360 consoles. While this news may be sad for some gamers, we really can’t be that upset. After all, every video game company eventually shuts down online services for older games. As far as the Halo franchise goes, it was only a matter of time.

By now, most console gamers who had an Xbox 360 have an Xbox One. It is only a matter of time before people buy an Xbox Series X . Gamers who have purchased Halo on Xbox One or the Xbox Series X will be more than fine to continue to enjoy their online experiences.

343 Industries plans on shutting down those services on Xbox 360 officially in December of 2021. If you still play on Xbox 360, you still have time but time is running out.

To be fair, most gamers do not play on Xbox 360 as much anymore simply because times have changed and consoles have gotten newer. There will be a total of 7 Halo games that plan on being affected. However, if you look on the bright side, you will still be able to play the campaign or these games for as long as you like. Those services will not be taken away, only the online multiplayer experiences.

As far as The Master Chief Collection goes, you will still be able to play online through it due to the fact that the collection is available on Xbox One. So while most of the Halo Xbox 360 games servers are being shut down, there will still be a  way to play some of your favorite Halo games online through The Master Chief Collection. 343 Industries have stated the reason why they are shutting down these services is that the time and effort it takes to keep those services online, they can be putting all of that energy into The Master Chief Collection or even Halo: Infinite.

light. Hot. NFL content makes its way into Rocket League

While the news may be a little heartbreaking for some gamers, it still is a year away from happening. Even after those online services are shut down there will still be tons of Halo games that gamers will be able to battle it out on with their friends. In a way, 343 Industries is doing this so that they can make other experiences for newer games better for gamers on newer consoles.
