How to use your PlayStation 4 DualShock controller with your PS5

If you are someone who misses the feel of your favorite PS4 DualShock controller, there is still a way to use it on your PS5 to a certain extent.

One of the downsides of going from one gaming generation to the next generation of gaming is that everyone has to start all over again. You need to re-purchase your favorite gaming console, buy new controllers, and buy brand new video games all over again. For some, this is not a big deal, but for others, it can be a major headache. A majority of gamers like to purchase and customize controllers so that they are to their liking. You might even have a controller on the more expensive side of things like a SCUF controller. Unfortunately, if you have a SCUF controller for your PS4, it is not going to work with any of your PS5 games. However, there is a way so that you are able to use your favorite PS4 controllers on your PlayStation 5 itself.

The first thing you are going to want to do in order to get your PlayStation 4 controller working on your PlayStation 5 is to grab the controller of your choice and a micro USB cable. After you grab both of those things, you can then plug the micro USB cable into both your PS4 controller and your PS5 gaming console. Then once you do that you are able to sync your PS4 controller to start controlling your PS5 interface. The good news is that now you are able to control your PS5 with your favorite PS4 controller. The bad news is that you are still going to be limited in a few ways while using a PS4 controller.

If you are looking to get away with playing PS5 exclusive games with a PS4 controller, you are out of luck. However, you are able to use your PS4 DualShock controller on your PS5 to play backward compatible PS4 games. The best part is that there are a lot of backward compatible games that you are going to have at your hands that you can take advantage of this feature. Sometimes it just feels better to play those older games with a controller that you were used to playing them with.

If you still don’t believe that a PS4 controller won’t work with every game then you will be greeted with an error message that politely asks you to use a PS5 DualSense controller for PS5 exclusive games such as the game that comes with it, Astro’s Playroom.

Do not get me wrong, the new PS5 controller is absolutely stunning and I am sure a majority of gamers would much rather use the brand new controller on their brand new PS5 console. However, there are still those people who aren’t be able to et go of their favorite PS4 controller and ultimately in the long run, will not have to.

There are still tons of backward compatible video games that will allow you to get extra use out of your PS4 controller on the PS5 if you so choose to. If you are one of the people who are looking to sync your controller then you came to the right place. This is how you are able to do it and these are all the restrictions and limitations that you might run into when using it.
