Amazon warns Xbox Series X pre-orders may be delayed just hours before launch
On the eve of the Xbox Series X release, Amazon has warned those who pre-ordered the console that it may be delayed until December 31.
The Xbox Series X officially launches in just a few hours (November 10, 2020). Those of you who pre-ordered the next-gen console months ago, probably thought you were safe — excited to go pick up it up or have it delivered to your house.
Unfortunately, those who pre-ordered from Amazon have been greeted with some potentially bad news. Just hours before the Xbox Series X’s launch, Amazon has sent out an email to those who pre-ordered, warning of possible delays.
The email, which we can confirm as we also received it, states:
"“We’re contacting you with an update regarding your order of Xbox Series X. We expect to ship your console in the coming weeks as we receive more inventory in November and December. At this time, we anticipate that you will receive your Xbox Series X by 12/31 or before. We are making every effort to get it to you as soon as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.”"
It’s unclear how many people who pre-ordered will be affected by this delay. We don’t know if it was a mass email to everyone who pre-ordered or if it was only sent to select people who will definitely have their pre-order delayed.

It’s entirely possible that you received this email and you still could get your pre-ordered shipped to you on launch day. In any case, this will almost certainly drive up anxiety before the launch of the Xbox Series X.
It’s worth pointing out that this isn’t the first warning Amazon has sent warning of possible Xbox Series X pre-order delays. In September, Amazon also sent out a wave of emails warning that the console may not arrive on time, but many just viewed this as a precautionary measure. I don’t think anyone thought twice that it could happen to them if they had their pre-order go through.
This email has also started to cause worry among those who pre-ordered a PlayStation 5 from the online retail giant. Although my PlayStation 5 pre-order from Amazon says it will arrive on Thursday evening, who’s to say this won’t change over the next couple of days?
