Outriders ditches traditional post-campaign formula with Expeditions
Outriders is ditching the games as a service mentality and offering a complete experience straight out of the box.
Today’s Outriders broadcast focused on the post-campaign content for the upcoming RPG-shooter. People Can Fly stopped short of revealing spoilers but explained that once you complete you complete the 40-hour(ish) campaign, you’ll discover mysterious points of interest across Enoch.
These areas, known as Expeditions, will offer new mysteries and stories to be discovered, precious resources to obtain more powerful gear and a place for advanced players to test their skills. Check out the latest trailer highlighting Outriders‘ post-campaign content.
There’s a lot to be excited about with Outriders based on this video. For starters, People Can Fly isn’t shying away from the fact that Outriders isn’t a “games as a service.” As we’ve seen so often in the past with these Games as a Service, the promise of a never-ending stream of regularly updated content rarely lives up to expectations.
People Can Fly is straight-up acknowledging that Outriders is a complete experience out of the box at launch. You won’t have to wait months for content to release at a snail’s pace.
Unlike other online GAAS titles, Expeditions also aren’t recycled material. You aren’t playing through the same map with slightly tweaked settings. These are “big, handcrafted new levels with their own mechanics, challenges and storyline.”

As for the mechanics of Expeditions, they seem to present a good way to test your skill and challenge yourself while obtaining powerful new gear. I also like how you’re rewarded even if you don’t fully complete an Expedition.
Now with only 13 Expeditions, one might think you could blow past this endgame content pretty quickly. Not so fast. There are world tiers that increase enemy strength and while your individual character only can level up to 30, the weapons you equip can reach all the way up to 50 in Expeditions. The more challenging the world tier, the better the weapon level rewards at the end.
There’s also the whole modding, crafting and customization aspect which is a must if you truly want to maximize the potential of your character. Overall, I like what People Can Fly is doing with Outriders‘ post-campaign content and can’t wait to see what else they have in store for the game.
Outriders is currently slated to release on February 2, 2021 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
