Bugsnax is the first free PlayStation Plus game for PS5

With the launch of the PlayStation 5 next month, Sony is adjusting its PlayStation Plus lineup for the month of November.

Typically, Sony gives away two free games to its PlayStation Plus members each month. These games are for the PlayStation 4 but with November being the launch of the PlayStation 5, Sony is adding on an additional game. The third game for the month of November is Bugsnax, and it will be free for PS Plus members who own a PlayStation 5.

Bugsnax may not be a AAA blockbuster title but it does look like a charming little game. It’s a whimsical first-person, narrative-driven adventure in which you play as an investigative journalist exploring Snaktooth Island “in search of the truth behind the tasty creatures known as Bugsnax.”

It’s not going to top my list of PS5 games to play at launch (that’s reserved for Demon’s Souls and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales) but I’m sure I’ll boot it up at some point.

Bugsnax may be the first free PlayStation 5 title given away through PS Plus, but it’s not the only game Sony will be giving away to its members that will be playable on the new console. Middle-earth: Shadow of War and Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition are also part of November’s PS Plus offerings. While both are PlayStation 4 titles, they will also be playable on PS5 thanks to the backward compatibility functionality.

And, of course, there’s the new PlayStation Plus Collection, a library of PlayStation 4 games playable on PS5 for free for those who are already PS Plus members. There are a total of 20 PS Plus Collection games playable on PS5 at launch, and a mixture of titles from Sony’s Worldwide Studios as well as third-party publishers and developers.

While PS Plus games typically drop on the first Tuesday of each month, Bugsnax will be available on November 12, the same day the PlayStation 5 hits store shelves. Middle-earth: Shadow of War and Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition will be available starting on November 3. Bugnsax will also be available to claim until Monday, January 4, 2021, giving those who can’t get a PS5 at launch some extra time to get the free game.
