Madden 21 Week 7 midseason ratings update gives big boost to Ryan Tannehill
By Lance Liebl
As we begin Week 8 of the 2020 NFL season, Madden 21 has released a “massive midseason ratings shakeup” in its Week 7 roster update. Here are some of the players who received boosts.
With the Madden 21 Week 7 ratings update, the Madden Twitter account boasted that it was a “BIG Ratings shakeup.” Needless to say, the comments on that post are full of disagreement — as is usually the case with ratings updates. The Madden 21 team, or any sports game developers for that matter, can’t win with fans, because fans have opinions on what certain players should be rated.
But, because they get paid for it, the Madden team is open to scrutiny. So how did the Week 7 Madden 21 roster update fair?
The big winner is Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill. After leading the Titans to a 5-1 start, Tannehill is playing the best football of his career, with a 15:2 TD to INT ratio on the year. Tannehill started with a launch rating of 80, dipped to 79 in Week 2, rose to 83 in Week 6, and gained five OVR points this ratings update to bring him up to an 88 OVR.
Buccaneers TE Rob Gronkowski has played better of late, which is why he rose one point in OVR in Week 7, bringing him up to an 86. That’s probably where he should be. But he started with a 95 OVR at launch, meaning the Madden 21 ratings team drastically overrated him. He’s down nine points from where he was at launch.

While Tannehill is on the rise, Ravens QB Lamar Jackson is falling in the ratings. Week 7 saw him drop a point down to 92 OVR. But on the year, that’s a total two point drop from his 94 launch rating. Through six games, Jackson has a 10:2 TD to INT ratio. But he hasn’t passed for over 200 yards in a game since September 20, and he hasn’t topped 300 yards in a game since last year’s playoffs.
But what about two young QBs like Kyler Murray and Josh Allen. Both of their teams are having success, and both are playing well. Since launch, Murray has increased two points from a 77 to 79 OVR, while Allen has gained five points from 77 to 82 OVR.
Some of Week 7’s other notable Big Movers were:
- HB Alvin Kamara +2 to 91 OVR
- SS Budda Baker +4 to 90 OVR
- CB Kendall Fuller +3 to 89 OVR
- CB James Bradberry IV +4 to 87 OVR
- CB Jason McCourty -2 to 83 OVR
- RT Tristan Wirfs +4 to 82 OVR
- CB Xavier Rhodes +4 to 80 OVR
- CB Sidney Jones IV +5 to 78 OVR
- DT Grover Stewart +6 to 77 OVR
- CB Michael Ojemuida +7 to 77 OVR
