Marvel’s Avengers: Highlights from the massive new V1.3.3 patch
Square Enix has dropped one helicarrier of an update for Marvel’s Avengers with the v1.3.3 patch.
The Square Enix team responsible for my latest gaming obsession, also known as Marvel’s Avengers (I get some people don’t like it but I love it) have recently dropped an absolutely massive patch for the game with Patch V1.3.3. And it covers so much that it would be a novel if I went over everything so here are my top takeaways.
“Remote faction terminals have been added to outposts, which allow collection of faction assignments and villain sector bounties without the need to visit each faction coordinator in person.”
This one made me incredibly excited. Every single time I play I know my first ten minutes are going to be made by going to two or three different NPCs in two different locations, each requiring extensive loading. This is going to streamline my activities so much and I love it. Getting the option to knock out everything in one spot is wonderful because, in a game where battleships can fly in the air and Captain America’s shield makes sense, it’s crazy that people can’t just do a bunch of things on their phone.
“The ability to preview cosmetic vendor items.”
As anyone who has played enough of the game knows, outside her constant begging for coffee, the most obnoxious thing about the cosmetic vendor on the Helicarrier is that she doesn’t show you a preview of the outfits she’s selling outside a simple picture of the character’s face, which, for an outfit, doesn’t really help. Normally when I see outfits for sale I end up having to hop on my phone and looking up what the outfit looks like on the Wikis. This lets me actually see the outfit, an option which has been bafflingly absent.
“AI companion improvements, including assistance when player needs to be revived.”
This one is a weird one for me. For me, I always play with A.I. because, unless a friend wants to play, I find random people are constantly either splitting up from me or charging directly in without doing the side missions to get better loot. And my experience with the A.I. has always been wonderful. They rez me when I fall, they attack the targets, and while they do tend to ignore pesky turrets, I usually love taking them out myself anyways. But if a lot of people are claiming issue with their computer-controlled teammates then them getting help equals more people playing a game I enjoy.
“SHIELD Substation Zero Outpost: SHIELD has opened Substation Zero to investigate new temporal anomalies that have begun forming across the world. A space that offers new narrative, characters, and content, you can find SHIELD Substation Zero in the Pacific Northwest on the WAR TABLE.”
This one I’m impossibly hyped for. Not only is this leading into Kate Bishop’s welcome to the game but it also opens up a ton of other missions and introduces the start of many new story threads, hopefully eventually leading into more about Thor and his brother. I’m all about this base, bout this base.
“Tachyon Rift Missions: You’ll investigate the temporal anomalies by taking on the new Tachyon Rift missions, which are the first place players can get Cosmic Gear. The Tachyon storm will damage players over time, but charges Heroic energy at an increased rate. With the “Meridian” modifier active, players can pass through Temporal Anomalies to extended the time you can spend within a Tachyon Rift. A late-game offering, Tachyon Rift Missions require 140 Power Level or higher Super Heroes to play. These missions are available once per day and rotate out daily.”

I am absolutely not here yet with my characters, in fact, this belittles my feeling of success I felt after getting Captain America to level 80, but now I have something to shoot for. These will be interesting missions because, while all character in the match will be taking damage over time, their heroic energy is going to increase just as rapidly so characters like Hulk that can heal themselves and Ms. Marvel, who is the game’s resident Paladin and can heal everyone, can get the ability to heal a lot more often. This will be a cool challenge and I’m excited to get to that point and have something to work towards.
“Tuned heroic drain inflicted by SPIN Drones.
Tuned difficulty in “Alone Against AIM” mission.
Tuned defensive effects of blue Overshield on enemies.
Tuned Cryo Adaptoid slam attack.”
I’m grouping these four together because they basically do very similar things and I’m happy to see all of them. These were four of the most annoying things in the game and having them tweaked is something I really wanted so getting all four at once and, hopefully, making them a lot less annoying is something I’m absolutely there for.
These are just a few of the ALMOST 80 things that they patched up for the game but, as I said at the beginning, you should dig through the entire list because it’s adding a lot to be excited about. They’re really cleaning up everything to welcome Kate Bishop.
