PS4: New PlayStation 4 game releases for October 2020

Sony is in the same situation as Microsoft with October marking the final month before the release of its next-gen PlayStation. But just because the PlayStation 5 is launching in November doesn’t mean October won’t see the release of some pretty exciting games on PS4. The only important thing to keep track of is whether or not you’ll be able to play them on your next-gen console should you upgrade in November.
The month actually kicks off with a bang with the release of Crash Bandicoot 4 and Star Wars: Squadrons. We jumped into Crash Bandicoot‘s demo earlier in September and had a hoot, while Star Wars: Squadrons looks like a blast as well. While a specific PS5 version of either game hasn’t been confirmed, it’s believed that Star Wars: Squadrons will at least be playable on Sony’s next-gen console via fowards compatibility.
As a fan of cyberpunk and sci-fi, two games that specifically speak to me in October are Cloudpunk and Ghostrunner. In Cloudpunk you work as a delivery driver for an illegal company in the sprawling city of Nivalis. Ghostrunner is more of an action parkour game in which you climb a giant tower — the last bastion of humanity — in an attempt to assassinate its ruler.

EA Sports’ NHL 21 and FIFA 21 will be releasing this month, a little later in usual thanks to the pandemic’s impact on global sports. FIFA 21 will get a next-gen release with a free upgrade via EA’s Dual Entitlement, while NHL 21 will simply be forwards compatible with next-gen consoles.
Lastly, we’ve got Watch Dogs: Legion, the next installment in Ubisoft’s blockbuster hacker franchise. This time, Ubisoft is going even bigger, allowing you to play as virtually any NPC in the game. Watch Dogs: Legion will get a free upgrade to PlayStation 5 as well.
