NHL 21: HUT RUSH adds speed and style to Ultimate Team
HUT RUSH is a ‘fast’ and ‘fun’ new way to experience Ultimate Team in NHL 21.
EA Sports is introducing some new mechanics and features in its Ultimate Team mode for NHL 21. Looking to spice things up a bit, HUT RUSH is a “fast, fun” new way to play the game.
It introduces a Style Scoring system that rewards you not just for scoring a goal, but for how you did it. In HUT RUSH, your style is as important as the goal itself as you can earn points multipliers for more difficult shots.
"A 2-on-1 cross crease pass for an easy one-timer won’t earn you as many points as a saucer pass to a streaking forward who tucks in the puck one handed. With HUT RUSH, the prettier the play, the bigger the bonus."
A brief teaser shared on social media shows off the new Style Scoring system in action. You can also see one of the new features: playable mascots.

HUT RUSH Will feature seasons with various modes supported, including 3v3, 5v5, timed games and goal limit games. There are also some exciting modifiers like first goal wins and Money Puck. And yes, there will be outdoor arenas. HUT RUSH’s seasons will track your progress through the ranks and provide rewards.
Admittedly, I’ve never been a huge fan of Ultimate Team modes in EA’s sports games. While I like the collectible card aspect of the mode, I just don’t have the time to dedicate towards farming for a competitive team (and I don’t want to spend money to compete).
In addition to Ultimate Team, EA has a slew of gameplay improvements for NHL 21, including improved AI hockey IQ, optimized goalie control and positioning, effective neutral zone play, and animations inspired by real-life superstars.
NHL 21 is set to launch on October 16 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. There will be no specific next-gen version of the game but it will be playable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X via forwards compatibility.
