Will Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 be the comeback Activision needs or will it suffer the same fate as its predecessor?

In the late 90s, the gaming industry saw the debut of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise. Since that time, the franchise has since spun several successful releases over the years including Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3, Tony Hawk’s Underground, and Tony Hawk’s Project 8.

As with most things, the success also comes with the failure and while the aforementioned titles are all considered classics, there’ve also been some blunders as well. Unfortunately, the last video game to be released from the franchise was 2015’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 and it didn’t quite live up to the expectations of the fans. Now, Activision and company look to make a comeback with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2; a remastered version of the first two games in the series.

As with most video game remakes, it isn’t so much about making a brand new game. It’s about reliving the nostalgia of the original game with better graphics and some added perks sprinkled in for good measure.

In the case of the Tony Hawk games, this would probably include the nostalgic soundtrack songs, the crude humor, and the outlandish, yet intriguing goals set in each level.

During an interview with VideoGamers.eu’s Geoff Keighley, Jenn and skateboard legend, Tony Hawk elaborated on this topic when asked if there would be any new secrets added to the game.

"“I was trying to stay as true as we could to the original. Besides the visuals and obviously, the responsiveness. we stay pretty true to the tricks and the maps. I didn’t want to mess with that too much. I feel like people are going to be so excited to play exactly as they remember it, but in this new visual field, that’s where we want to land.”"

Sure, not everything will be the same, but from the sounds of it, this game will be exactly what Activision needs to get back on the right track with the franchise. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is less than a month away from being released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows. Here’s to hoping the game is a success.
