So that’s it, huh? We’re some kind of Suicide Squad?

After months of radio silence, Rocksteady Studios finally announced the game they’ve been working on and as it turns out, they aren’t straying away from the superhero world. Known for their critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham series, Rocksteady will be staying within the DC universe. More specifically, they are working on a new Suicide Squad game.

Earlier this week, Rocksteady shared a single tweet announcing the Suicide Squad game, while also confirming it will be officially revealed on August 22 during DC FanDome, the online event DC Comics will be hosting.  The 24-hour digital event will feature everything from DC movies, TV, games and comics.

Accompanying the announcement was a single teaser image featuring Superman with a target reticle on the back of his head, suggesting you’ll be hunting the Man of Steel as the supervillain team. Interestingly, Supes has a bit of a purple-ish tinge to him, so maybe it’s not the Superman we all know and love but instead some sort of corrupted version.

Rocksteady has been long linked to a Superman game, but honestly, I like this new direction instead. How much fun can it actually be playing as someone as overpowered as Kal El? He makes for a much better enemy, in my opinion, and someone much more fun to hunt down.

The concept of a Suicide Squad game also raises the interesting prospect that this could feature some sort of multiplayer tie-in. Hopefully, it won’t be some sort of live-service as we’re already getting a version of that with Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers. Give me something like Batman Arkham but with multiplayer.

We’ll find out more about this highly anticipated Suicide Squad game on August 22. In the meantime, let the speculation begin! In all likelihood this game is coming to next-gen consoles, so I doubt we’ll see any actual gameplay.

Let’s just hope it’s better than 2016’s film from David Ayer. It’s also unclear if it will be related to the upcoming standalone sequel that’s being worked on by James Gunn.
