Call of Duty: Warzone will be a permanent game beyond 2020
Call of Duty: Warzone isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Having experience tons of success off Call of Duty: Warzone, it sounds like Activision has no plans to move on from the battle royale game. Since its release, Warzone has completely taken over the Call of Duty world in that it seems to be that more people are playing the battle royale mode over the standard multiplayer.
Many gamers were worried that the release of this year’s Call of Duty, rumored to be Black Ops: Cold War, would spell the end of Warzone. This is not going to be the case by any means.
According to Geoff Smith, design director for Infinity Ward, Warzone is planned to be supported and updated well beyond 2020. Smith also stated that Warzone has always been designed as its own game. But what does this mean exactly? How will it evolve with new entries in the Call of Duty series? Will Infinity Ward remain the developer? What about when new games add mechanics?
As gamers of the Call of Duty franchise are well aware, each new game tends to add something new to the franchise that sets it apart from previous years’ games. For example, if jetpacks are introduced in future Call of Duty games, does that mean that Warzone will find ways to integrate it?

It will be cool to see how the Verdansk Warzone map changes with the new Call of Duty release, especially each game’s theme and setting. I am very sure that any new maps introduced in any future Call of Duty games will make their way as a new location on the Warzone map. This will go for any new characters that are introduced down the line as well.
One of my favorite things that happened in Warzone Season Four was the arrival of the familiar face of Captain Price. Adding Price gave Warzone gamers a lot of nostalgia and was a great selling point for the Season Four Battle Pass.
The news that Warzone is going to live well beyond 2020 is music to my ears. This has been one of the best decisions that Activision has made regarding the Call of Duty franchise and I think that Warzone will continue to grow bigger and bigger as time goes on. If you haven’t gotten a chance to play Warzone before well then there is no better time than now because Season Five kicks off on August 5, 2020. The best part about Warzone is that it is free to download for anyone who would like to play, so there’s literally no barrier stopping you from trying it out.
