Sony details which PS4 peripherals will work on the PS5
By Lance Liebl
Which PlayStation 4 peripherals will work on the PS5, including information on DualShock 4 compatibility.
It’s been a slow drip of information on next-gen consoles. While we wait on pricing information and exact release dates from the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, Sony posted some news on PlayStation Blog regarding which PS4 peripherals will work on the PS5.
The bulk of that information is in regard to how the DualShock 4 will work with the PlayStation 5. The skinny of it is that the PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4 will not work with PS5 games because those games are designed to use the new capabilities and features of the PS5’s DualSense controller. However, the DualShock 4 controller (as well as PlayStation officially license 3rd party controllers) will work with supported PS4 games on the PS5.
Other peripherals that Sony confirmed will work with the PlayStation 5 are Sony’s Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets; third-party headsets that use either USB port or audio jack to connect; PS Move Motion Controllers, PlayStation VR Aim Controllers and the PlayStation Camera can be used for supported PS VR games; and finally, officially licensed arcade sticks, flight sticks and racing wheels will work on both PS5 and supported PS4 games.

It’s worth noting that not all third-party peripherals will work on the PS5. You’ll have to check with the manufacturer of the peripheral to see whether it will work with the PS5. Some peripherals that people had compatibility questions for in the comments were whether the DualSense controller would work for PS4 games on the new console, and if specific third party peripherals would work, like the Astro C40 TR PS4 gaming controller. Sony didn’t confirm either at time of this article being published, so we recommend checking back on the blog post for updates. Astro currently has nothing on their website regarding their controller being compatible with Sony’s new console.
The best news here is that if you bought an expensive headset for your PS4, you’ll be able to continue using it for the PS5, unless you really want an excuse to purchase a new headset. If that’s the case, pretend you didn’t read this.
