The Clash of Clans Summer 2020 update has arrived. Here’s what’s new.

We didn’t have to wait long for the Clash of Clans Summer 2020 update. After a few days of sneak peeks, the latest update is now live.

The update introduces new upgrade levels for defenses, buildings, troops and heroes; reworks the Lightning Spell; brings numerous game changes and quality of life improvements; and adds two new Super Troops and a Dark new Elixir Troop. While the full patch notes can be found over on the Clash of Clans forums, below are some of the highlights.

The Headhunter

A new Dark Elixir Troop available at Town Hall 12, the Headhunter is an assassin troop that targets Heroes. The Headhunter deals four times the damage against Heroes and adds a Poison Spell effect that slows movement speed and attack speed.

Super Troops

The two new Super Troops are the Inferno Dragon and Super Witch. The Inferno Dragon is the Super version of  a Level 6 Baby Dragon, firing a continuous beam that increases in damage over time.

The Super Witch is a Supered variant of a Level 5 Witch. Rather than summoning skeletons or bats, the Super Witch, summons Big Boy, a giant skeleton with nearly as many hit points as the Super Giant.

New Upgrade Levels

The Cannon, Wizard Tower and Dark Barracks have each gotten a new level. 50 additional Wall segments can be upgraded to Level 14 now as well.

For Heroes, the Barbarian King and Archer Queen have gotten five new levels up to level 75 now. Perhaps more exciting, the regeneration time has been lowered to a maximum cooldown of 40 minutes at level 75.

Game Changes and Quality of Life Improvements

There are a ton of game changes with the Summer 2020 update. Far too many to list here. I recommend reading the hefty patch notes for the specifics, but some highlights include:

  • An improved Town Hall upgrade experience that triggers time-limited boost sand benefits when you upgrade your Town Hall.
  • A slight rework to how the Loot Cart accumulates loot over time for up to 90 days and a slight increase in its capacity to generate resources from inactivity.
  • Village customization with new scenery that’s accessible by tapping on the Town Hall and selecting “Change Scenery” button
  • Builder Base: Reduced Crusher splash radius (from 3.5 tiles to 2.8)

As I mentioned, there are tons of balance adjustments for both the Village and Builder Base. The Clash of Clans Summer 2020 update didn’t introduce a ton of new gameplay features or elements but all of the troop additions and gameplay changes have been met with warm reception by the players. It’s not the biggest update the game has seen, but it’s certainly a good one.
