BugSnax is exactly the type of weird game we need on PS5

Looking for another weird title to add to your collection? BugSnax may be your next best title coming to the PlayStation 5. The makers of Octodad: Dadliest Catch didn’t disappoint with their uniquely weird title, revealed during yesterday’s PlayStation 5 event.

Who would’ve thought the phrase: “You are what you eat.” Would take on a new meaning in 2020?

Young Horses revealed, as part of the PlayStation 5 Digital Showcase, their brand new game: Bugsnax. It’s a narrative-driven adventure game  where you investigate the mysterious Snaktooth Island, home of the legendary half-bug half-snack creatures: the titular Bugsnax (noun, plural).

The reveal trailer featured a dozen professional voice actors including Max Mittelman (One Punch Man) as “Filbo Fiddlepie”, Helen Sadler as intrepid explorer “Elizabert Megafig”, Tom Taylorson (voice of Octodad) as the Snax in the trailer, and an original track titled “It’s Bugsnax!”  from British indie pop sensation Kero Kero Bonito.

The weird game has players on Snaktooth Island, home of the legendary half-bug half-snack creatures, Bugsnax. Invited by intrepid explorer Elizabert Megafig, you arrive to discover your host nowhere to be found, her camp in shambles, and her followers scattered across the island alone and hungry.

There are tons of features to look through as players look for Elizabert Megafig in this uniquely enticing product, includin gover 100 different species of bugs for you to discover, hunt and capture. To do so will require a variety of contraptions and bait.

BugSnax was probably the weirdest game revealed during the PS5 event. But weird can sometimes mean interesting and in this case, it absolutely does. Sometimes you need a break from all of the shooting and sword-swinging and action-centric titles that amp up the launch crowd; sometimes you need something a little weird to remind you that video games don’t always have to be so serious.
