PGA Tour 2K21 has announced its cover athlete as well as new details about the game including its release date and consoles.

PGA Tour 2K21 feels like a long way removed from the days of The Golf Club which released in 2014. Now, with the full backing of 2K, a new generation of golf gaming seems to be upon us. On Thursday, the industry giant announced their cover star for the new golf game as well as other details.

12-time PGA Tour champion, Justin Thomas makes the cover in what will be his video game debut. He also is a major champion, winning the PGA Championship in 2017 at Quail Hollow. Originally, the cover was teased with a silhouette of a golfer. Immediately, most people started guessing it as Thomas (myself included. Hooray) and they were right.

Aside from the cover reveal, PGA Tour 2K21 looks to have a new PGA Tour career mode, more officially licensed courses, and apparel among other things. And for the first time in the TGC/PGA 2K series, there will be real-world tour pros in the game including Thomas.

The PGA Tour Career mode will allow you to create a MyPLAYER (similarly to the NBA 2K series) where you can try and play your way to the FedEx Cup title. You can customize your golfer with some newly licensed apparel. And for the first time ever, you will be able to give your player some officially licensed equipment. Titanic golf brands such as Bridgestone, Callaway, and Taylormade make up of the equipment options.

There is no word yet on who the other golfers are, but there will be 11 others in the game. As for courses, there will be 15 of them in PGA Tour 2K21. This is a big bump from the six that The Golf Club 2019 had.

The six courses are returning and that includes TPC Sawgrass, TPC Scottsdale, and TPC Deere Run. Standouts among the new courses include East Lake and TPC San Antonio. East Lake hosts the Tour Championship while TPC San Antonio hosts the Valero Texas Open.

And, making its triumphant return is the powerful course designer, which has been a staple in the series. So not only will players be able to play on some laser-scanned real-world courses, but they will still be able to create some fun, beautiful, and wacky designs of their own.

PGA Tour 2K21 will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Stadia on August 21. If you pre-order the game, you’ll receive the Adidas CodeChaos outfit for your MyPLAYER. There is also a Digital Deluxe version that includes 2,300 VC (Virtual Currency), a gold putter, and a gold driver for your golf bag.
