Fortnite is known best as a Battle Royale third-person shooter. Epic Games is trying to expand their horizons by making the video game more social. Welcome Party Royale to the world of Fortnite.

Fortnite took over the video game world by storm back when it released in 2017. I don’t think Epic Games realized how popular their game would become. It has since amassed 350 million registered players to date and over 3.2 billion hours of gameplay just for the month of April alone. Now with the whole world pandemic that has sparked due to the Coronavirus, Epic Games has decided to try and help gamers stuck inside who still want to be social.

The new Party Royale game mode takes out all the weapons in the Battle Royale and has made the mode for social gatherings. You heard that correctly, a Battle Royale game mode without any weapons at all. The purpose of this new mode is not to pick up a victory, but instead grow your social relationships without leaving the comfort of your own home.

Party Royale takes on the role of a smaller version of the standard Battle Royale map. Violence-free is not something Fortnite is used to having, but this new game mode has been very popular despite being very different.

If you miss going to concerts, good news, you are able to go to concerts with all of your friends! Party Royale has been hosting virtual concerts over the past few weeks. The performing artists have included Deadmau5, Steve Aoki and Travis Scott to name a few. Travis Scott was the first concert that was held in the game and was largely successful. Travis Scott’s Fortnite Concert did 12.3 million attendees. If I do say so myself that is one large and successful concert.

If concerts aren’t your thing, they have plenty of other social activities you can do with your friends. You can practice your landing drops by doing some Sky Diving Time Trials, drive around in a boat, or even go cart racing with some of your friends.

Maybe you don’t want to do any of that and would rather just join Party Royale to talk and roam the island as a stress-free time. You can do that!

Party Royale also features a few “fun” weapons including a paint launcher, water balloons, and a burger grenade. These are just for the sake of fun as they won’t actually hurt any of the players that are in-game since the whole mode is violence-free.

Party Royale has been a great social experiment that Epic Games wanted to try out with Fortnite. So far, things have been super successful and I don’t see this trend slowing down anytime soon. In fact, other Battle Royale games might look at Fortnite’s Party Royale mode as an opportunity opener that will also allow other games to follow in Epic Games’ footsteps.

Regardless Party Royale has been super successful and the new video game hangout for many Fortnite fans and many new to the gaming genre in general. Go ahead and grab a few of your friends, complete a few in-game challenges, and most importantly have a good time!
