The Assassin’s Creed Valhalla trailer has just been released and based on what was shown, we are about to head into the Viking era.

After taking a year off for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Ubisoft will be releasing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla  this holiday season. Following yesterday’s teaser, which confirmed a Viking setting, Ubisoft released an official cinematic trailer and shared some details. Assassin’s Creed has never delved into the era of the Vikings so what we are going to be witnessing is going to be brand new for all of the franchise fans.

The trailer for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla looked very intense. The cinematic graphics looked amazing. The battles looked crisp and the main character immediately gave me a feeling like I was bonded to him already.

Eivor is the main character that we see go to war in the trailer. He is the leader of a Viking clan who plans to take his place and make his mark in Valhalla. The game will take place during the Dark Ages of Norway along with ninth-century England where players will be able to settle down and lead their clan of Vikings to victory.

Just when we thought Eivor was about to lose his head to some gigantic Viking soldier, he ripped out an Assassin’s Creed classic, the hidden blade. The hidden blade has been an icon for the Assassin’s Creed franchise from the very beginning and it is no surprise that even if there are Vikings, there will be hidden blades.

The combat that was shown seems more grueling than ever and even though it wasn’t actual game, it could suggest something new — head decapitation. Whether that was just for the pure joy of putting together a nice movie-like scene or if that is something that we will be able to do in the game itself is yet to be confirmed. The trailer also showcased a wide arsenal of weapons that will presumably be at our disposal. These weapons ranged from axes to spears to fiery arrows to even the basic swords. Combat is sure to be next-level and gory when it comes to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

In case you missed it, Norse God Odin was also shown in the trailer as well. At the moment it is unclear what kind of role Odin will play in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but the trailer made sure you knew he was there watching Eivor do battle. Given how the trailer perceived Odin, I have a feeling his role is going to be more major than minor. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey saw its fair share of Greek Mythology so it will be interesting to see how much Assassin’s Creed Valhalla decides to dive in depth with it as well.

Another thing that really stuck out to me was the fact that we saw women Vikings as well in the background. Ubisoft confirmed my suspicions that you will be able to play as either a male or female version of Eivor and have customization options such as changing hair, tattoos, clothing, war paint and gear. Assassins’ Creed Valhalla will also have traditional RPG elements such as political alliances, combat decisions and dialogue choices that can influence the world.

I guess we won’t know more until more gameplay video are released. What we do know is that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be released Holiday 2020 and will be available on both next generation consoles, the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5. It will also be available for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Stadia as well. Ubisoft also confirmed there will be a Season Pass, which is included in some of the special edition versions of the game.

While there are still tons of questions about the game, one this is for sure, the Viking era in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is going to be fantastic and I cannot wait to see how the story unravels. We’ll hopefully find out more soon!
