With the announcement of the cancellation for WWE 2K21, the future of the franchise is set to be revealed on April 27th, 2020.

WWE 2K has been the next generation of wrestling video games since WW2K14. Fans of the game have seen the game make many changes that a majority of people were not too happy with. The Road to WrestleMania feature has been destroyed, commentary has been cheesy, and the game mechanics have been progressively getting worse. Not to mention the graphics haven’t been the greatest either.

WWE’s interim chief financial officer Frank Riddick said, “there’s not going to be a launch of the game this year.” Fans of the franchise are actually kind of relieved with the news. The game has just been getting progressively worse so now is the time to put the whole kabash on the franchise before fans of wrestling stop buying WWE games all together.

You would think that as video game technology increases the game mechanics and graphics would improve with the time, but that actually is the opposite of what has been happening. IGN gave WWE 2K20 and 4.3 out of 10.

For a game that has so much hype every year and a game that has millions of fans waiting for its release, that is an unacceptable score. WWE 2K games are not indie games, these are triple A titles. Any game that sells millions of copies every year should never have a review score of less than an 8 out of 10. As a fan of the series myself I had high hopes for 2K game to take over, but they ultimately let me down.

The wrestling game franchise really died with the last Smackdown vs Raw video game in 2011. Ever since then, no wrestling game has really given me the same feeling as those games did. The Road to WrestleMania game mode was something I always looked forward to every year and so did other fans of the game as well. However, the game mode was taken out for no reason whatsoever.

The news that WWE 2K21 will be cancelled is most likely for the fact of all the backlash that the games have gotten over the past few years. On April 23rd, 2020 WWE 2K20‘s twitter shared this interesting tweet:

dark. Next. Call of Duty Warzone: Tips to master the Gulag

While most people are speculating that the WWE 2K franchise will ultimately be dead and over with, there is also speculation that there will be new versions of a WWE game to be released. I am hoping that 2K games and any future WWE video game developers will listen to the fans and give them a game that they deserve. I guess we won’t know what is really going on until Monday, April 27th.
