How will the Xbox Series X hold up given the current circumstances and how is the coronavirus pandemic affecting the video game industry as a whole?

In times of uncertainty, the video gaming industry seems to be doing just fine. In fact, some would even go as far as saying that it’s thriving. Given the fact that most people are staying at home in an effort to slow down the spread of the coronavirus, this isn’t too hard to believe.

When asked about a spike with Game Pass subscriptions as a result of the virus, Xbox head Phil Spencer can be quoted as saying, “Everything is up. Minecraft is huge. Game Pass is huge right now. Hardware sales are strong right now.”

It should be noted that Spencer is not trying to take advantage of the COVID-19 crises despite the rise in sales. During the aforementioned interview, he also states, “We’re very careful that we’re not exploiting the situation. I think what we’re seeing is just the role that gaming normally plays in a household and it’s amplified right now.”

If you’re worried Spencer and Microsoft were going to let the crises get in the way of launching the Xbox Series X, I have good news, that’s definitely doesn’t seem to be the case. At the beginning of his interview with IGN, Spencer explains the process of how he and the rest of the team are managing the workflow given the circumstances.

Spencer states, “After the cancellation of E3, we’ve been sitting and watching how our teams have been making progress and building a plan to disclose more and more. He later went on to say that “as a gaming leadership team, we’re having conversations almost daily as teams are learning how does work from home impact their productivity.”
